Mexico City Stadiums Where Games Are Played
All five Mexico City matches take place at a single venue: Estadio Azteca, recently renovated and officially renamed Estadio Banorte. FIFA refers to it as Estadio Ciudad de México during the tournament, but locals still call it the Azteca, and you will hear all three names used during the World Cup.
No stadium in the world carries more World Cup history. Opened in 1966, the Azteca is the only venue to have hosted two World Cup finals: Pelé lifted the trophy there with Brazil in 1970, and Maradona did the same with Argentina in 1986. The 2026 tournament makes it the first stadium ever to host matches at three World Cups. Ahead of the tournament, the venue went through a major renovation that upgraded seating, hospitality areas, and accessibility.
The stadium sits in Santa Úrsula, in the southern part of Mexico City, about 30 to 60 minutes from central neighborhoods like Roma Norte, Condesa, and the Historic Center depending on traffic.
