What to Expect from the Mexico City Grand Prix in 2026

Expect the loudest crowd on the calendar. The race has drawn more than 400,000 fans across the weekend for three straight years, with 401,326 in 2025. It also won F1’s best event award five years in a row, from 2015 to 2019. Lando Norris won here last year from pole, ahead of Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen. However, this year’s cars are new. Power now splits roughly 50/50 between engine and battery, and active aerodynamics have replaced DRS.

The track itself is unusual. It sits at about 2,285 metres, roughly 7,500 feet, the highest point of the season. So the thin air cuts downforce, drag and cooling. The lap runs 4.304 km, and the race lasts 71 laps. Its best feature is the Foro Sol section, where cars wind through a baseball stadium full of fans. That stadium also hosts the podium.

Why Is Checo Pérez’s Return So Big?

Because Mexico’s biggest racing star missed his home race last year. Red Bull dropped Sergio “Checo” Pérez after 2024, and he sat out 2025. He came back this season with Cadillac, the new eleventh team, alongside Valtteri Bottas. The car is slow, and neither driver had scored a point by mid October. Still, the crowd will not care.

Cadillac is also billing this weekend as his 300th Grand Prix. That count includes races he entered but never started, which Pérez himself has pointed out. Either way, expect his name on flags, shirts and every grandstand chant.

Who Is Leading the 2026 Championship?

Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes, by a wide margin. After Singapore on October 11, he had 340 points, which put him 102 clear of teammate George Russell. Behind them, the fight is tight. Lewis Hamilton had 229 points, Verstappen 221, Leclerc 215 and Norris 201. With six races left after Singapore, second place is wide open. As a result, every Mexico City Grand Prix point will matter.

Where to Stay for the Mexico City Grand Prix

Stay in Roma Norte or Condesa. Both are close to Metro Line 9, at Centro Médico and Chilpancingo stations, which runs straight to the circuit with no transfers. They also have the best restaurants and bars for the evenings. Juárez works well too, with one change on the Metro. Polanco is the upscale choice, but it means a longer ride each morning. For specific picks, see our guides on where to stay in Roma Norte, the best hotels in Condesa and the best hotels in Polanco.

Book now, because the Mexico City Grand Prix lands on the busiest weekend of the autumn. The Day of the Dead parade fills Reforma on Saturday, and Día de Muertos follows on November 1 and 2. For every district, start with our guide to Where to Stay in Mexico City.

Mexico City Grand Prix Ticket Prices and Availability

Tickets are on Ticketmaster, and only as three day passes. Most grandstands sold out within days of the November 2025 sale. That includes the cheapest seats in Grada 2A, at about $214 USD. Right now, Grada 7 is still on sale at about $761 USD. Gradas 1 and 2 on the main straight show limited availability at about $1,670 USD. A few Sky Box and Speed Lounge packages also remain, at about $2,311 USD and up.

Note that these are face values before Ticketmaster’s service fee. Seats are numbered, and you must stay in your own grandstand all weekend. Also, children aged 4 and up need a ticket. If your grandstand is sold out, try an authorized F1 ticket agent instead of social media resale.

Race Weekend Schedule and Venue

The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez sits inside the Ciudad Deportiva Magdalena Mixhuca in Iztacalco, east of the center. It is named after Ricardo and Pedro Rodríguez, two Mexican brothers who both raced in F1. The circuit starts with a straight of more than a kilometre into Turn 1, which is the best overtaking spot. Next door stands the Palacio de los Deportes.

Weekend Schedule

  • Friday, October 30: Practice 1 at 12:30 PM, then Practice 2 at 4:00 PM
  • Saturday, October 31: Practice 3 at 11:30 AM, then Qualifying at 3:00 PM
  • Sunday, November 1: drivers’ parade at 12:00 PM, then the race at 2:00 PM
  • F4, GT and historic car races fill the gaps on all three days
  • Gates usually open at 8:00 AM, though times can change

Events Around the Race

  • Wednesday, October 28: Cadillac’s public show run on Paseo de la Reforma, from 10:00 AM, with Pérez at the wheel
  • Saturday, October 31: the Day of the Dead parade, reported for 2:00 PM on Reforma, during qualifying
  • Sunday, November 1: Día de Muertos begins, with ofrendas across the city
  • After the race, past editions had DJ sets at the Foro Sol podium, but no 2026 act is announced

Planning Your Visit to the Mexico City Grand Prix

Getting There

Take Metro Line 9, and choose your station by grandstand. Velódromo serves the Foro Sol stands, Gradas 14 and 15. Ciudad Deportiva serves the main grandstand. Puebla is best for Gradas 3 to 6 and 9 to 11. Metrobús Line 2 also stops nearby at Iztacalco and UPIICSA. Buy your return fare in the morning, because the machines get busy after the race.

Do not drive to the Mexico City Grand Prix. In past years the circuit had no public parking, only remote lots with shuttles. Instead, Ticketmaster sells Ticket2ride, a round trip shuttle that needs its own ticket. Last year it cost about $19 USD and left from five points, including Condesa. After the race, walk a few blocks before ordering a rideshare.

What to Bring

Pack for a full day outdoors at altitude. The sun is strong at 7,500 feet, so bring sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses. Mornings can be cool, though, so add a light layer. Ear protection helps too. Cameras are allowed with lenses up to 300 mm. However, tripods, monopods and selfie sticks are banned. Also, the ATMs inside do not take American Express.

Race Day Experience

Arrive early on Sunday, since the support races start at 9:15 AM and the crowd builds fast. The Fan Zone has simulators, food and bars. Meanwhile, the Foro Sol gives the loudest atmosphere, especially when Pérez passes. Remember that the zones inside are not connected, so you stay in your area all day.

Once the race ends, the Metro gets packed. So either wait out the rush in the stands or ride one stop the wrong way first. Then head back to Roma or Condesa for dinner and the Día de Muertos ofrendas.
